Plaza Principe de Asturias

Built in the garden of the Franciscan convent, serving as a model for other squares of the 19th century. The plaza, designed by Manuel de Oraá y Arcocha, was created in 1857 on the former grounds of the orchard of the now-disappeared San Pedro de Alcántara monastery.

It was inaugurated in 1860 in honor of Alfonso XII, the then Prince of Asturias. It forms a well-defined enclosure within walls, parapets, and railings; the main entrance is flanked by two allegorical sculptures: "Primavera" and "Verano", and inside, with a central kiosk, mature laurels grow that were imported and imported from Cuba in 1866.

They highlight the pavilion in the center of the plaza, built in 1929 and surrounded by birch figs, and the two Genoese statues symbolizing spring and summer.
