The García Sanabria Municipal Park is a landmark in the city of Tenerife, a popular vacation destination for citizens and tourists.
The Municipal Landscape Park was founded in 1926 and is named after the mayor of Santiago García Sanabria, who approved its construction and who governed the city from 1923 to 1924. The park's land was under reconstruction from October 2004 to June 2006.
Currently, the García Sanabria Park is the largest park in the Canary Islands, with an area of 6.7230 square meters. The park is also part of the heritage of the First International Exhibition of Street Sculptures, held in Tenerife in 1973.
The García Sanabria Park can be considered a true botanical garden, where exotic plant species from other continents and countries grow in combination with a variety of colors, many fountains and sculptures. The park is ideal for relaxing, reading a book or taking a walk with the children. The vegetation, in its majority is of tropical and subtropical nature. If you look at the bulk of the foliage, you can see there real parrots living loose without any restrictions.
There is a large fountain in the center of the park. There is also a flower clock, always decorated with fresh flowers.
The park has bicycle paths reserved only for those who want to ride a bicycle.
A part of the park is known as the Walk of Fame. There are commemorative plaques with photos and a brief description of the people who lived, or visited Tenerife at some point. Famous people who visited the parquet include Stephen Hawking, Agatha Christie, Winston Churchill and many others.
Getting to the park is easy: take the bus to the stop of the same name (Parque García Sanabria).
