The Ferrocarril de Sóller (Tren de Sóller) is a narrow gauge railway on the Spanish island of Mallorca. It connects the city of Sóller with the island's capital, Palma de Mallorca. It opened in 1912, primarily to transport oranges and lemons to the capital's markets.
The Sierra de Alfàbia railway has difficult terrain and overcomes the Sierra de Alfàbia. The width of the ridge is 2.8 km. and the height is 496 meters above sea level. For this, in just seven kilometers, the railway rises to 199 meters with slopes that reach 23 ‰. Along 27 kilometers there are 13 tunnels and several bridges, including the Cinc-Ponts viaduct.
Due to its excellent views, the railway is in great demand among tourists. The train connects with the Sóller - Port de Sóller tram, which in turn connects with the boats to the Sa Calobra beach and the Torrent de Pareis gorges. There are seven pairs of trains a day during the season, from March to October. From November to February, five pairs of trains a day. The cost of the trip is 19.50 euros. In 1929, the railway was electrified. From that moment on, it became a tourist attraction.
The Palma - Sóller railway line is characterized, among other things, by a narrow gauge railway with a gauge of 914 mm. And a real train, which is currently one of the main attractions of Mallorca in its own right.
