Sa Llotja

Sa Lloja is a magnificent structure, a symbol of Palma's past prosperity. The building served merchants on the stock exchange. The building was designed by Guillaume Sagrera between 1420 and 1452 for the Board of Trade, the body responsible for regulating trade and collecting the trade tax.

The building has a fortified appearance, with an openwork gallery that simulates a covered path, although the merlons and turrets are more decorative than defensive. The severity of the walls is mitigated with Gothic windows with fine fillings. The elegant trading room features ribbed crossbows decorated with ribs that fall on six beautiful columns of torsos. The building was also used to enter into commercial transaction contracts. Now Sa Lloja is an exhibition center.

The rectangular building of the Stock Exchange consists of three naves of equal height, divided by six crooked columns without capitals.
