In ancient times, Roquetas de Mar was a small fishing village, and the salt flats also lived here. The location of the village turned out to be a strange success, so it developed rapidly. Many nations have left their mark on the culture of this place, including the Arabs, Phoenicians and, of course, the Romans. Even today, Roquetas de Mar is home to people of more than a hundred nationalities who continue to contribute to culture. It is because of this cultural mix that Roquetas de Mar is so attractive and unusual.

The Costa de Almería Aquarium has at least 15 different saltwater and fresh water tanks. The displays will teach you the cycle of the water and even allow you to pet the rays and dive with the sharks ... or you can simply marvel at them from outside the tank. Listen to informative talks about the work aquarium keepers do. Be sure to stick around for feeding times for different marine species. This aquarium has a cafeteria and a gift shop.

The castle's history dates back to the 14th century and contains periods of reconstruction after almost destruction. Converted into an open-access museum with exhibition space, it contains paintings, photographs and other objects of interest, as well as offers lectures and talks from time to time. The inner courtyard usually displays sculptures and even hosts seasonal concerts. Consider going on a picnic.
