The Maritime Museum (Museu Maritim de Barcelona) is located near the Columbus monument in the Royal Shipyard building, built in the Gothic style in the 16th century. The purpose of the museum was to show visitors the glorious maritime history of Catalonia, the stages of formation and development of navigation in this region and the inextricable link between the inhabitants of the area and the sea. In 1931 a special library was opened in the museum. The Civil War was a very difficult period for the museum, but the museum's collections have been preserved. In the restoration process of 1985, the museum significantly expanded the area of its exhibitions.

It will also appeal to all boat and sea voyage lovers interested in the history of shipbuilding. It is one of the oldest buildings in Barcelona with an amazing beauty. Once in this museum, visitors seem to return to the past, presenting warriors or pirates fighting in the Spanish galleys. While in the museum, you can easily navigate with the Spanish navigator Christopher Columbus, who arrived in Barcelona at the end of the 15th century after the discovery of the New World

There are many different exhibits and interactive programs on display at the museum, for example an antique gallery. The museum also presents instructional films about the origins of sailing in Barcelona. In the museum rooms, you can admire endless models of ships. The biggest impression is the life-size replica of the Spanish galley "Real" (flagship of the Christian fleet in the Battle of Lepanto).

In addition, the museum exhibits nautical charts from around the world, a collection of instruments for sea navigation, diving equipment. The exhibition also includes the sailing schooner "Santa Eulàlia".
